The season didn’t end the way we wanted, but fifth spot and a return to the Europa League is a decent enough return. So, who performed well last season and who left a lot to be desired?

Arsenal’s 2021/22 campaign is done and dusted. After starting the season in horrible fashion, losing the opening three games without scoring, the Gunners had a resurgence to climb their way back up the table.

Still, with all the inconsistencies with having one of the youngest squads in the English top-flight, there were signs of improvements. The form line was up and down, and heading into the final four games of the year; Arsenal firmly had Champions League football in their sights.

As we know, we faltered badly, but fifth place and returning to the Europa League would have sufficed at the start of the season.

Grading every Arsenal player in the 2021/22 season

Some players stood up and showed out throughout the campaign, but some left a lot to be desired. How did the squad fare in 2021/22? I give my grades for each Arsenal player. Let’s go.

Goalkeepers

Aaron Ramsdale – B+

The Englishman came to north London with many writing him off, but he quickly established himself in the starting XI. His save to deny James Maddison was a thing of beauty. His form tapered off towards the end of the season as Arsenal failed to keep a clean sheet in their last ten games. Overall, a decent first season.

Bernd Leno – C

The German had a start to forget as he was in goal for the opening three games, shipped in nine goals, and ultimately lost his job to Ramsdale. He was rarely called upon again, featuring just eight times in all competitions, keeping three clean sheets.
