TWENTY-EIGHT (28) assists since the start of the 2020/21 season. David Raum is a relentless supplier of goals.

Following a superb campaign with Greuther Furth in the German second tier last season, Baum moved to Hoffenheim last summer before notching 13 Bundesliga assists in his debut campaign.

The 24-year-old’s meteoric rise has seen him thrust to the forefront of Hansi Flick’s plans with the national team, and another move away could beckon for him ahead of the 2022/23 season. Raum can operate as part of a four- or five-man defence down the left-hand side, but he’s undoubtedly more productive when given the licence to maraud into the final third.

His preference to play as a wing-back might deter the Gunners – who haven’t regularly used wing-backs since the end of Arteta’s first season as manager – from making a move. But William Saliba’s return means we could see Mikel become even more flexible with his configurations.

Thus, Raum could be a brilliant option for the Gunners. The German must now be regarded as one of the best attacking full-backs on the continent, and he could add another dimension to Arsenal’s play in the final third.

However, there are some concerns over his defending. Raum’s technique in one-vs-one situations often leaves a lot to be desired, while his overzealousness in the defensive phase can get him into trouble at times.
