Arsenal’s list of summer priorities is lengthy, but perhaps the most significant subject of query is Bukayo Saka’s future.

The blossoming superstar has just one year left on his deal in north London and the Gunners are keen to open talks over an extension as soon as possible. The player, though, is in no rush to commit his long-term future to his boyhood club.

Saka was Arsenal’s leading Premier League scorer last term as he scored 11 times in 38 appearances. His stellar season saw him nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award for the second campaign running.

He’s arguably the most important building block of Mikel Arteta’s slow-burning rebuild at the Emirates, and the club are desperate for Saka to remain a protagonist in red and white throughout the 2020s.

Bukayo Saka is in no rush to extend his Arsenal contract

According to 90min, Saka is in no rush to sign a new deal with Arsenal despite the club wanting to open talks with the 20-year-old this summer.

The 20-year-old last extended his contract in 2020 after he broke through under Unai Emery at the start of the 2019/20 season. His importance to the Gunners has increased exponentially ever since Mikel Arteta succeeded Emery as manager in late 2019, and he’s fully deserving of a more lucrative deal that’ll thrust him among the club’s highest earners.

While very few are concerned about Saka’s future, Manchester City are understood to have ramped up their interest in the winger. However, the Daily Mail writes that a move this summer is very unlikely.

Liverpool and Real Madrid also hold an interest in the Arsenal star, and the list of clubs interested in acquiring his services will only increase as his long-term future remains in the dark.

If the Gunners are unable to tie down Saka for the long haul in the coming months, they’ll trigger the extra-year option inserted in the winger’s current deal.

For now, Gooners can sleep easy regarding their starboy. But many will be hoping that this situation is resolved before an incredibly dull saga can develop. Just sign da ting, Bukayo.
