Gianluca Scamacca is one of many targets Arsenal are said to be interested in, and Sassuolo’s director has stated that contact for the striker has been made by clubs already.

When Arsenal let then club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang walk through the exit door in January, it was clear that the Gunners needed another striker. Without Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and young Eddie Nketiah were left with the goalscoring responsibility to lift the Gunners into the top four.

We now know that they could not stump up enough goals despite Nketiah’s impressive end to the season. So, once the whistle blew on Arsenal’s final game of the campaign, a 5-1 cakewalk at home to Everton, attention quickly turned to transfers.

Sassuolo director confirms that contact has already been made for striker Gianluca Scamacca

One name that has been heavily linked with the club is Gianluca Scamacca from Serie A side Sassuolo. The Gunners are reportedly interested in the services of the 6’5 forward, and according to Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali, who spoke to Sky Sport Italia (via Football Italia), there have already been contacts with various clubs regarding the availability of the 23-year-old.

"“Our desire is to keep most players in the team, and there is nothing concrete for now,” Carnevali said.“There have been some contacts with some clubs for Scamacca and others. Perhaps the national team will make the interest grow.”"

The clubs Carnevali is talking about are unknown, but one would hope that Arsenal are among those trying to ignite negotiations with the Neroverdi. Fans do not want the club to sit on its hands as before—the 2011 summer window springs to mind.

Mikel Arteta himself, Andre Santos, Per Mertesacker, and Yossi Benayoun all came through the doors on deadline day in 2011, as many called it a hurried and panicked piece of business by Arsene Wenger, who had just lost Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas.

Thankfully, it seems that the club is becoming far more proactive. Reports have suggested that a deal for Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus could be completed as early as next week (believe it when I see it). If we hope that Arsenal are in talks with Sassuolo, then Arteta and co are not wasting time getting players in.

Arsenal would get its business done early in an ideal world and have every new player fully integrated during pre-season. Now, we know that it is not that easy, but it can be done. We do not want to have a player come in after the season has started and it takes them weeks to get a feel for the squad.

We all hope that business is done quickly, whether that be for Jesus, Scamacca, or Youri Tielemans. Fans want players in before the season starts. Will it happen? If reports and rumours are to go by, Mikel Arteta and co aren’t wasting any time.
