Oleksandr Zinchenko further depicted his potential to develop into a superb central midfielder as Ukraine fell at the final hurdle in their bid to reach this year’s World Cup.

The Ukrainian has played sporadically for Pep Guardiola during his time at City, and he’s now keen to earn regular minutes at the highest level.

Arsenal are said to be one of a few teams interested in signing Zinchenko this summer, and Arteta is understood to be willing to offer the versatile 25-year-old an opportunity to shine in a more advanced midfield role. Under Pep Guardiola at City, Zinchenko essentially operates as a faux midfielder. He takes up a variety of positions when City have the ball, often drifting infield to function as an inverted full-back.

The four-time Premier League winner is exactly what Arteta needs despite his rather slight frame and sub-par athleticism. He’s one of the finest technicians around, and his brilliance is only appreciated when he dons the strip of his impassioned national side.
