Arsenal are not believed to be keen on signing former winger Serge Gnabry from Bayern Munich this summer. The possibility of a transfer has been deemed “highly unlikely” by reliable sources.

The recent Gnabry hysteria was conjured up by Arsenal supporters online, who hoped the club would act upon the German’s contract issues in Bavaria.

Gnabry’s contract with Bayern expires next season and talks over an extension have ground to a halt due to the player’s lofty demands.

The 26-year-old is a borderline superstar and one of the most destructive players in the sport. While many regarded Gnabry’s 2021/22 campaign as a ‘down year’, the German international was still able to notch 20 Bundesliga goal contributions as Die Roten waltzed to another league title.

Serge Gnabry is not yet on Arsenal’s radar & a move is ‘highly unlikely’

Gnabry appeared 18 times for Arsenal’s first team before he departed for Germany in 2016 to begin his ascent to superstardom. Following prosperous spells at Werder Bremen and Hoffenheim, Gnabry signed for Bayern in 2018 and quickly earned a fearsome reputation.

His 2019/20 campaign under Hansi Flick was one for the ages, and following another productive season, Gnabry has now registered over 100 goal contributions in 171 games for the Bavarian giants.

Thus, the possibility of Arsenal signing their former cast-off this summer was always optimistic. The Athletic’s James McNicholas reports that despite much fanfare, Gnabry is currently not on Arsenal’s radar and a transfer this summer appears “highly unlikely”.

The Gunners would be forced to stretch their remodelled wage structure to bring the German back to the Emirates, while the club’s lack of Champions League football would likely prove costly if other competitors started to emerge for the winger’s signature.

It’d likely cost the club over £20m-a-year to bring Gnabry home.

So while the fantasy narrative of Gnabry’s homecoming may keep some supporters going throughout the summer window, we recommend any devotees to prepare themselves for ultimate disappointment.
