Arsenal Transfers: Leeds winger Raphinha on list of potential targets
Leeds United’s winger Raphinha is among Arsenal’s potential targets this summer and the Gunners are considering a move for the Brazilian.
Raphinha has taken the Premier League by storm since he arrived at Elland Road from Rennes in 2020. After notching 15 league goal contributions in his debut campaign as Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds earned an impressive mid-table finish, the Brazilian was a shining light amid a tough 2021/22 campaign.
The dynamic right-winger scored 11 Premier League goals as Leeds avoided the drop by the skin of their teeth on the final day. Despite guiding his side to safety, Raphinha is expected to leave Elland Road this summer.
Arsenal are considering a move for Leeds winger Raphinha
According to The Telegraph, Arsenal are one of several clubs considering a move for the Brazilian.
West Ham United attempted to sign Raphinha in January, while Barcelona have long been the favourites for the exciting winger’s signature. However, La Blaugrana’s financial woes may prevent them from making a move this summer.
After signing for Leeds for £17m two years ago, Raphinha’s value has risen exponentially and it’ll likely take a fee in the region of £45m to bring him to the Emirates.
Arsenal are poised to add a high-output winger to their ranks this summer despite the presence of young stars Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. With Eddie Nketiah extending his contract in north London, only one new centre-forward is expected to join the club and the Gunners will likely look to add more goals to their front line by signing another wide player to potentially replace Nicolas Pepe.
Edu Gaspar is well-versed in the Brazilian market and Raphinha is, of course, an international teammate of Martinelli and defender Gabriel, whom he also played with at Brazilian club Avai. The club will be hoping that these links can aid their pursuit of the Leeds star.
The Gunners are soon set to be bolstered by the arrival of young Brazilian winger Marquinhos. The teenager will join from Sao Paulo in a £3m deal. However, Mikel Arteta cannot count on the unknown commodity to have an immediate impact in north London.
