Bernd Leno saw his position in the first team taken by Aaron Ramsdale last season and he has been linked with a move away from the Emirates this summer.

German shot-stopper Bernd Leno was once Arsenal’s undisputed No.1 between the posts. That was until Aaron Ramsdale joined the club last summer. The Englishman quickly overtook the German as Leno was forced to sit on the bench and pick up the odd game here and there.

With his future clearly away from the Emirates after Ramsdale’s arrival along with US international Matt Turner, Leno is on the lookout for a new club. That club could be newly promoted Fulham, according to The Athletic.

Returning to the Premier League was a fantastic achievement for Fulham, and they are looking at securing the services of the German keeper. Leno has shown his qualities, and should he make a move across London, he will bolster their chances of survival.

Considering that newly promoted teams tend to struggle in the top flight, adding a player of Leno’s calibre and experience would be a shrewd piece of business for Marco Silva’s men. The fight for Premier League survival will start on the opening matchday, and having an international keeper will ease any fears of the Cottagers conceding goals for fun. The German is an excellent shot-stopper.

Leno would be Fulham’s first signing of the summer if they manage to get a deal over the line, while there is no news on what a potential fee could be.

The 30-year-old saw his game time significantly diminish last season as he only played eight times in all competitions, keeping three clean sheets in the process. The season prior, Leno played 49 times but is now seen as surplus to requirements at the Emirates.

With Leno on the move, other teams are also reportedly interested, one being Newcastle.

Seemingly wanting to upgrade their goalkeeping stocks with Martin Dúbravka and Karl Darlow not thought to be of the required standard for the vastly ambitious Magpies, Leno would be an instant upgrade for The Toon.

Money, as we know, will not be a problem for Newcastle, so a deal could be wrapped up rather quickly if they so choose.

Bernd Leno has been a solid servant for Arsenal since he arrived in 2018, but with Mikel Arteta reshaping his squad and Ramsdale’s rise to prominence, the German will be on the move this summer.
