Although it concluded in a narrow, painful defeat in the inaugural Europa Conference League final, Reiss Nelson nevertheless enjoyed a fruitful loan at Dutch outfit Feyenoord in 2021/22 and will hope to finally establish himself in north London next season.

The 22-year-old has been on the fringes of the first-team setup for several years and featured regularly when Arteta was first appointed before falling out of favour. And after the success of his first temporary move to Hoffenheim, another opportunity in Rotterdam helped to revitalise his career as he played in 21 Eredivisie matches and got the game-time to boost both his physical and mental wellbeing.

How important he is to the manager’s plans is unclear and, with plenty of signings to arrive in the frontline this summer, he will definitely have his work cut out in fighting for a more prominent role. However, his versatility and suitedness to either flank could serve as a useful tactical ploy with five substitutions now permitted, and the Stateside tour in July presents a chance for him to lay down a marker and prove his mettle.

This could be his time to shine.
