Arsenal’s need for a top striker has been staring them in the face for the past season, if not longer. Alexandre Lacazette has left the club and while Eddie Nketiah has resigned, the hole for a top-quality, experienced option remains unfilled.

Robert Lewandowski would undoubtedly fill this role. Bored of Bayern Munich, the Pole is keen to leave the club this summer. The striker has flirted with Barcelona but a deal there would be difficult, to say the least. La Blaugrana’s financial situation is as complex as it gets.

Imagine the scenes if Arsenal were to secure Lewandowski’s signature under the noses of the destitute Spanish club. No, I can’t either.

Recent departures have provided Arsenal with a level of flexibility that has rarely been seen at the club in years. They could well move for a world-class striker that would take the pressure off of the young attacking players.

Lewandowski offers experience, quality and a winning mentality. Wanting a move away so late in his career only speaks to his desire to keep pushing himself to new heights. He would slot in quickly amongst the exciting talent already present along the front line while providing a unique goal poaching threat.

What could possibly stop him from joining Arsenal? Everything, probably.
