Mikel Arteta was somewhat of a winger whisperer during his time as Guardiola’s assistant at City. He was believed to have had a massive influence on the likes of Leroy Sane and Sterling as the pair exploded during City’s 2017/18 Centurions campaign.

Speaking about the Arsenal boss after he left his post as Guardiola’s assistant, Sterling said: [Arteta is] a person that had a lot of say here [at Man City]. The manager trusted him here and he had a lot of influence on the players here and the team as well.”

The Englishman clearly respects Arteta, and I genuinely believe Arsenal would be able to entice Sterling back to London this summer despite their lack of Champions League football.

The 27-year-old is familiar with Arteta’s ideas – considering his philosophical similarities to Guardiola – and the player’s ability to play off both flanks to an equally high standard would be ideal for the Gunners.
