Although renowned for his physicality and ability to dictate matches from central midfield, Vieira still registered an impressive tally of 32 goals for Arsenal and few were as significant as his third-minute opener at White Hart Lane in April 2004.

The move started with a quick breakaway following a Tottenham corner as Thierry Henry collected the ball and evaded a challenge before charging into the opposition half. From there, the King then played a pass into the path of Bergkamp who squared a first-time effort across the box to Vieira, and the captain stretched out a leg to steer it into the corner.

It was a swift counter-attack that featured the fluid interchanges characteristic of Wenger’s heyday and, while the game ended 2-2, the draw did little to temper the away-end mood as Arsenal claimed the point that was enough to earn Vieira’s third title in six seasons.
