Arsenal’s pursuit of Gabriel Jesus is nearing completion, with reports stating that the Gunners have now agreed on personal terms with the Manchester City star.

Mikel Arteta is edging closer to completing the transfer of his number one transfer target Gabriel Jesus. The Gunners agreed to terms over the fee with Manchester City of £45m a couple of days ago. It was thought that City wanted more than £60m for the diminutive forward, but Arsenal seems to have negotiated the Premier League champions down.

Per The Athletic and Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal has now agreed to personal terms with the 25-year-old. A five-year deal has reportedly been agreed upon as the process has accelerated immensely over the last few days.

Mikel Arteta’s vision for the club is starting to become clearer. With FC Porto’s Fabio Vieira signed, goalkeeper Matt Turner nearing completion (waiting for the official announcement), and Marquinhos, Jesus will become the fourth player to come through the doors at the Emirates.

The 25-year-old was the Gunners’ number one priority this summer after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Alexandre Lacazette left the club, leaving a gaping hole in the striker department. Arteta has moved rather swiftly to get the deal done.

Fabrizio Romano added that the Brazilian is set to undertake his medicals this week as the club looks to make its first real statement signing of the summer.

Jesus leaves the reigning Premier League champions after scoring 96 goals in all competitions in his six-year stint, winning four league titles in the process. Arsenal will be hoping that the Jesus signing will be followed closely by the capture of Leeds United winger Raphinha.

Romano also revealed that the Gunners have a meeting scheduled with Leeds next week in their latest attempt to try and secure the winger’s services. A reported fee of £65m is what Leeds will be asking for from the Gunners.

That certainly is very rich, considering the other needs in the squad that needs addressing. The Youri Tielemans interest has reportedly cooled significantly, but some say that is simply because the club wanted to get the Jesus deal over the line first. Whether Arsenal goes back in for the Belgian remains to be seen.

Either way, Arsenal are making moves in this transfer window. Having culled its huge wage budget and moved on players not deemed necessary, the decks were cleared.

Mikel Arteta is ushering in a new era for Arsenal Football Club with some great signings. The best part? There could be more in the coming weeks.
