Next up in our series here at PITA are the Arsenal full-backs who, by and large, are all quite notorious through the annals of footballing history.

In the modern game, the full-back has taken on a more offensive and playmaking capacity than when many of these names took the field and donned the red shirt.

Nigel Winterburn could play on either side of the pitch for Arsenal. From 1987 to 2000, Winterburn did just that, while bringing Arsenal to a position of real power and respect under massive names of the sport like George Graham and Arsene Wenger. His seven goals and 12 assists with the Gunners show his offensive understanding was as nuanced, if not entirely as developed, as his successors would prove.

Like his longtime teammate and partner, Lee Dixon, he played for the Gunners during what should be called a historic transition period for the club, in which some of the best coaches and players roamed the sidelines and pitch.

Winterburn slides in at fifth in our all-time ranking, with an Invincible pipping him to fourth spot.
