Arsenal are one of several leading European clubs chasing Aston Villa starlet Carney Chukwuemeka this summer.

Chukwuemeka has featured sporadically for the Villans in the Premier League after making his debut in the penultimate game of the 2020/21 campaign. The 18-year-old made 12 league appearances last season, notching a single goal contribution, before he went on to star for England at the Under-19 European Championships.

Chukwuemeka scored the go-ahead goal in the final against Isreal as the Young Lions won the tournament. His extra-time strike crowned a magnificent Euros for the 18-year-old and Europe’s elite have been put on red alert.

According to 90min’s transfer expert Graeme Bailey, Arsenal have joined the race to sign Villa’s Chukwuemeka this summer.

The teenager’s deal at Villa Park expires at the end of the upcoming season and the Villans are yet to convince the versatile midfielder to pen an extension. Chukwuemeka is desperate to play regular first-team football and despite their previous efforts being rebuffed, Villa are secretly confident of tying down the 18-year-old for the long haul.

However, interest in the young England star is widespread. Alongside Arsenal; Manchester United, Manchester City, and Newcastle are suitors from the Premier League. Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Atletico Madrid are also keeping tabs on Chukwuemeka’s situation.

Arsenal’s interest in the Villa starlet does make sense. The Gunners are looking to further upgrade their midfield this summer, and Chukwuemeka is certainly capable of performing the left-sided #8 role in Mikel Arteta’s ideal 4-3-3.

The 18-year-old’s brilliance persistently manifested at this summer’s U19 Euros, with many regarding the midfielder as the Player of the Tournament. Chukwuemeka is a powerful ball carrier who boasts the vision and subtlety to excel from a creative perspective. There are a few defensive shortcomings, but the midfielder is far from a passenger in this phase.

Overall, there are a few stylistic resemblances to his Villa teammate, Jacob Ramsey (another player Arsenal should be targeting), and he certainly has the potential to blossom into a Premier League star. If Villa can’t reach an agreement with the teenager, the Gunners must be assertive in their pursuit.
