Odegaard sticks out like a sore thumb at £6.5m among this season’s midfield options.

The Norwegian international emerged as a creative force for the Gunners last season on his way to 11 Premier League goal contributions. Odegaard’s 6.8 expected assists (he actually registered four) ranked ninth in the division last term, and the playmaker is poised to be the beneficiary of an improved Arsenal forward line next season.

The former Real Madrid starlet has already forged a telepathic relationship with Bukayo Saka down Arsenal’s right, and his assist numbers could sky-rocket should he develop a similar understanding with new arrival Gabriel Jesus.

While Alexandre Lacazette often treated the opposition’s box like it was Chernobyl, Jesus will constantly be looking to get on the end of Odegaard’s threaded through balls in the final third and his smart cut-backs when he occupies a wider position.

Fabio Vieira’s arrival is the only caveat, as he could compete with Odegaard for minutes next season, but there’s no doubting that the midfielder will continue to wreak havoc from the right half-space to start the campaign.
