Arsenal 2-0 Everton: Player Ratings as Gunners cruise against Toffees

Arsenal secured a routine 2-0 win over fellow Premier League side Everton in Baltimore. First-half goals from Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka sent the Gunners on their way.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta named a strong starting XI with William Saliba partnering Gabriel in defense, Thomas Partey, Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, and Gabriel Jesus all starting, while Matt Turner started for the second consecutive game.

A great start to the half, and after half an hour, Gabriel Jesus put Arsenal ahead. A corner was whipped in, and Jesus was left unmarked at the back post. He took a delightful touch before firing home from close range.

Just minutes later, Arsenal doubled its lead. Gabriel Jesus went on a great run, and the Brazilian tried to pick out Martinelli but missed his countryman, and the ball found its way to Saka at the back post, and our starboy slotted home.

It was just about the perfect half of football from Arsenal. Sensational pressing did not allow Everton any time on the ball, and Arteta’s side went into the break two goals to the good.
The second half was a polar opposite of the first as Arteta rang the changes. It lost much of its appeal as Arsenal simply cruised through to the final whistle to notch their second consecutive win during their preseason campaign.

Here are the Arsenal player ratings from the win over Everton.

Goalkeepers & Defenders

Turner (GK) 7/10: Aside from a save early in the first half, Turner could have had the newspaper out for a nice read in the second half. He didn’t have much to do, but he dealt with it well when he did—a clean sheet for our American.

Cedric (RB) 6/10: The right-back was solid in the first half, got forward well, and kept it simple. Covered well for Saliba on one occasion as the defender was caught ball-watching.

Saliba (CB) 7/10: A lovely performance from the Frenchman who lasted 70-odd minutes. Calm and composed in possession. Did get caught ball-watching in the first half but was bailed out by Cedric.

Gabriel (CB) 7/10: As usual, relaxed and calm in possession and marshaled the defense superbly. Did not put a foot wrong.

Tavares (LB) 6/10: Solid enough outing for the left-back. He got forward well as he usually does and was reasonably content with his defensive duties.
