Arsenal Transfers: Brighton considering move for Nuno Tavares
Arsenal are happy to let Nuno Tavares leave on loan this summer and fellow Premier League outfit Brighton are believed to be have moved ahead of competitors in the race for the Portuguese full-back.
Tavares enjoyed a difficult debut season in north London after signing from Benfica last summer. Kieran Tierney’s injury woes meant Tavares enjoyed a sustained period in Mikel Arteta’s XI, and while he did show promise, especially in the final third, he is far from the finished product.
The 22-year-old is flawed defensively, and it was apparent last season that he isn’t yet ready to play regularly for a club of the Gunners’ ambition. But, he’s also a player that we shouldn’t give up on just yet, which means that a loan move away this summer would be ideal.

Tavares has garnered some interest from overseas, but the latest link – reported by O Jogo – suggests that Brighton could potentially make a move for the 22-year-old.
The Seagulls are set to see the back of Marc Cucurella this summer with the Spaniard being identified by Manchester City as Oleksandr Zinchenko’s replacement. Zinchenko will soon complete his £32m move to Arsenal.
For Brighton, Tavares could be a useful stop-gap option to replace Cucurella for a year, with Arsenal ready to sanction a loan deal for the Portuguese left-back. It’d be a brilliant move for Tavares, who would be utilised as a wing-back by the brilliant Graham Potter, while Arsenal will eventually reap the benefits of the 22-year-old gaining greater Premier League experience.
However, Brighton have merely approached the Gunners for Tavares. Nothing is concrete. Nevertheless, should the report be true, Arsenal would be silly to rebuff the Seagulls’ advance.
Despite the rather tenuous links, the report states that Brighton is the “strongest possibility” for Tavares. Marseille, meanwhile, are still interested in the dynamic full-back.
