3. Minutes

Staying in the Premier League would be ideal, but, more crucially, Tavares needs minutes wherever he lands.

Should he make the move to the Amex this summer, he’d likely replace Marc Cucurella and emerge as Potter’s first choice down the left. Manchester City are keen on signing Cucurella this summer, but Brighton are holding out for £50m after the Spaniard impressed during his debut season on the South Coast.

City, of course, require a replacement for the Arsenal-bound Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Currently, Brighton’s options at left wing-back are thin. Even Cucurella was occasionally used as a left centre-back last season. Solly March is an alternative for Potter, but Brighton certainly need depth in this area of the pitch.

No outfield player racked up more Premier League minutes for Brighton than Cucurella (3,092) last season. So his departure would leave a gaping void in Brighton’s depth chart.

While he looked incredibly raw last season, Tavares would be an intriguing possibility for Potter’s Brighton. Potter’s excellent system combined with Tavares’ potential role within it, the familiarity of the Premier League and the likely minutes he’ll earn on the South Coast mean this is the perfect move for the Arsenal man.
