Should Arsenal consider re-signing Aaron Ramsey?
By Adam Schultz
Aaron Ramsey is one of the most beloved Arsenal players of the modern era, and an opportunity has arisen to potentially sign the Wales international after his Juventus contract was mutually terminated.
One of Arsenal’s favourite sons is available on a Bosman. Aaron Ramsey, who left the Gunners in 2019 to join Serie A giants Juventus, has seen his contract terminated by mutual consent.
The 31-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Rangers in the Scottish Premiership and is now looking for a new team.
Could Arsenal bring home Aaron Ramsey on a free transfer this summer?
Could Arsenal bring him home? It is not the worst idea in the world. While the Gunners have enough quality in the creative department, a box-to-box midfielder like Ramsey could prove to be a frugal piece of business.
At just 31, Ramsey still has a couple of good years left, and he could end his football career where he made his name.
The Welsh wizard made 371 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 65 goals and registering 65 assists as he often dictated games from his midfield position.
Ramsey could prove to be a great squad player for Mikel Arteta. He has all the tools needed to thrive in the Spaniard’s system, which would cost nothing. It would be a win-win.
Whether Arteta wants to bring back an older player from a past regime is unknown, but it is something that he indeed has to at least think about.
Imagine the reception the 31-year-old would get from fans at the Emirates. Everyone would know he is not there to be a starter every week, but he offers some decent skills in the middle of the park.
He can tackle, work around the ground, and get forward with the best of them, as we saw many times throughout his Arsenal career.
With the Gunners a little thin in the midfield department, a move for the free agent seems like a potential option. Ramsey knows the club, the fans, the manager, everything. Bring a former great home and do it at no cost.
He could slot in nicely among the squad and be an experienced player for the younger ones to learn off. It may not happen, as the 31-year-old is said to be courted by several MLS teams as well as Nottingham Forest, but a return to the Emirates would be great.
Or have I just been sucked in by the power of nostalgia? Probably.
