2. Marseille have a track record in player development

While it is often said that lightning doesn’t strike twice, Arsenal will be optimistic Tavares can upset those odds and thrive at the Stade Vélodrome next season as Marseille have proven their expertise in the field of youth development, evidenced by the astonishing recent maturation of William Saliba.

The French centre-half was already a star in the making when he returned to Ligue 1 last season, but desperately needed regular first-team action to further his progress and he gained the required experience at the heart of Jorge Sampaoli’s defence, where a series of magnificent displays and the affection of supporters helped to mould him into the talent he has become.

Of course, Sampaoli is no longer in the dugout, but Tudor implements a similar tactical setup to his predecessor and will therefore provide ideal on-pitch conditions for Tavares to hone his skills just like Saliba did, while a raucous atmosphere should help to address his concentration issues and make him a better player than before.
