Arsenal are trying their utmost to offload as many unwanted squad members as they can in the coming weeks, and it looks like they’ve found a buyer for midfielder Lucas Torreira.

The Uruguayan international is not a part of Mikel Arteta’s plans despite joining the first-team squad for their pre-season tour of the States. Although, he was forced to depart early having not played a single minute due to “personal reasons”.

Torreira has spent the past two seasons out on loan after impressing in his debut season at the club under Unai Emery. An indifferent spell with Atletico Madrid in 2020/21 was followed up by a much more productive campaign with Fiorentina last time out, but it was revealed earlier this summer that La Viola would not be purchasing the midfielder outright – much to the player’s dismay.

Arsenal have since been trying to find a buyer for the tenacious midfielder with Valencia, Roma and Juventus all linked.

Lucas Torreira is heading to Galatasaray in a £7.5m deal

Despite Valencia reaching an agreement with Torreira, it’s Turkish giants Galatasaray who have swooped to sign the Uruguayan international.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday that Arsenal had agreed a deal with Galatasaray for Torreira, and they were waiting on the player to accept the Turkish club’s proposal.

However, the Daily Express’ Ryan Taylor understands that Torreira is flying to Istanbul to undergo his medical ahead of a £7.5m move.

The Uruguayan midfielder is one of several Arsenal players that could depart this week. Bernd Leno will soon be announced as a Fulham player after an £8m fee was agreed between the two clubs, while Folarin Balogun is poised to join Reims on loan.

Pablo Mari has also generated interest from Serie A clubs Udinese, Monza and Hellas Verona.

The club is certainly making progress on the outgoings front following weeks of struggle, and should they be successful in quickly getting players out of the door, then we should expect a busy end to the summer window.
