For the first time in seemingly forever, Arsenal appear to be injury-free ahead of a Premier League game!

Injuries crippled the Gunners down the stretch last season as Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney both suffered season-ending knocks in the defeat to Crystal Palace back in April. Takehiro Tomiyasu, meanwhile, spent much of the second half of his debut season on the sidelines.

Tierney and Tomiyasu were inactive throughout pre-season as they continued to nurse their respective niggles, while injuries to Emile Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira meant they played either little or no part in the club’s preparations for the 2022/23 season.

Tierney, however, returned and came off the bench at Selhurst Park on opening night, and he could be joined by the aforementioned group on the bench on Saturday as Arsenal welcome Leicester to the Emirates for their first home game of the new campaign.

Smith Rowe, Tomiyasu and Fabio Vieira were all pictured in training ahead of the weekend’s clash. While it’s too early to suggest whether they’ll each play a part against the Foxes, the signs are trending in a positive direction.

Fabio Vieira picked up a foot injury almost right after he signed for the club which derailed his start in north London. Supporters are excited by the young creator’s arrival, but he’s probably the least likely of the three to earn any minutes on Saturday. Mikel Arteta will be particularly cautious over the former Porto star.

Smith Rowe and Tomiyasu, however, could get their campaigns underway in the home opener. While Arteta will surely deploy the same starting XI that beat Palace on opening night, both could be options off the bench.

Ben White has filled in ably at right-back in Tomiyasu’s absence and has emerged as the Japanese international’s primary cover option over veteran Cedric Soares.

Nevertheless, the potential returns of these three players is a massive boost for Arteta, who can now rely on more quality options off the bench in a potential bid to alter the dynamic of contests. Arsenal’s stellar medical staff also deserve a mention for their excellent work in ensuring the recoveries of each of the Gunners’ injured stars were super efficient.
