Arsenal fans were treated to some great news on Monday when David Ornstein of The Athletic announced that 18-year-old right back Brooke Norton-Cuffy signed a new long-term contract with the club.

This is a huge relief for the Gunners as star youngster Omari Hutchinson left for Chelsea last month and it would hurt to lose another player with such huge potential.

Norton-Cuffy enjoyed a massively successful loan spell with Lincoln City in League One last season which has led many fans to believe that he will be the next youngster to break out of Hale End.

What does this season hold for Arsenal youngster Brooke Norton-Cuffy?

Considering that he played in the third division last season, I believe it is a bit of a stretch to suggest that he’s ready to be a first-team regular this season. But with his new deal and no signings in his position this summer, the club very clearly has a plan in mind for the youngster.

Another loan seems like the best course of action for him to develop and get valuable game time at his young age before potentially making his mark on the first team in 2023/24.

A championship loan would probably do him well, but a loan abroad would also be an interesting choice for him. The trait that makes some fans think that he has what it takes for the Premier League already is his physicality. He was able to easily handle the strength of opponents in League 1 and so a loan overseas, where he can hone and develop his technique, would perhaps do him well.

Compare this to Charlie Patino. The young midfielder was clearly not up to it physically in the defeat at Nottingham Forrest in the FA Cup last season, so a loan to the Championship will be huge for his physical development.

The club opting to not pursue right-back cover this summer and instead have Ben White and Cedric available to cover for Takehiro Tomiyasu is very telling in how much the club rates BNC’s abilities. The Europa League group stage would’ve also been a good test for the youngster but playing primarily with the U23’s for the first half of the year would be regressive for Norton-Cuffy.

A loan will be the likely option for Brooke Norton-Cuffy. He is a serious talent and it will be very exciting to see him develop this season – wherever he lands.
