There have been many detractors of Mikel Arteta as Arsenal manager, but Jack Wilshere has nothing but praise for how the Spaniard goes about his business.

Not everyone is a fan of Mikel Arteta. Even after the summer the club has had and their blistering start to the Premier League campaign, still, some fans want him out – although those are now very much in the minority.

Although there was a point where such a view was somewhat understandable. This time last year, the Gunners started the 2021/22 season in the worst possible way; losing their opening three games, scoring no goals, and conceding nine.

There has been a lot of change off the field with scouting personnel, coaches, and everything in between. Change has been swift but needed from the first team down to the club’s academy.

One change to the coaching ranks has been former player Jack Wilshere, who took control of the Under-18s.

Wilshere was a generational talent. But, unfortunately, injuries got in the way and his career fizzled out. Now, he is back at the club where it all started to start his coaching journey.

Having played with Arteta and returning to work alongside the Spaniard to some degree, the 30-year-old has lifted the lid on what he is like as a manager.

The former Gunners midfielder spoke to the Daily Mail and said that Arteta’s playing style is very similar to his coaching style.

"“Playing with him, he was a guy who was very focused, very intelligent with the way he trained,” Wilshere said.“As a coach he is very similar. He is very intense, very hands on with the players and trying different things, new techniques to try to help them. I like it. He’s a modern coach. Sometimes it will work, sometimes it won’t. You’ve got to try these things to see that.”"

With Wilshere just starting his coaching journey, Arteta got his first big job with the Gunners after taking over from Freddie Ljungberg, who was caretaker after Unai Emery was sacked.

It has been a long three years for Arteta as he has had to deal with a lot of adversity. But now, after a couple of good transfer windows, his vision has emerged from the thick fog that once clouded the Emirates.
