Arsenal’s interest in signing a winger this summer is well-known and Nicolas Pepe’s potential departure to Nice has opened the door for the club to bring someone in.

The Gunners were unsuccessful in their pursuit of Leeds winger Raphinha earlier this summer as the Brazilian opted to join Barcelona. Following that, it’s been unclear who the club’s priority winger target is.

The likes of Moussa Diaby and Cody Gakpo have been tenuously linked with a move to north London, but it’s a player much closer to home who’s emerged as Arsenal’s top target.

Wolves’ Pedro Neto is Arsenal’s ‘mystery winger’ target

According to the reliable David Ornstein, Arsenal are prioritising a move for Wolves winger Pedro Neto.

Super agent Jorge Mendes has been at the heart of the talks, which have been ongoing for over a month, and while Arsenal’s interest is certainly concrete, this will be a difficult deal for the club to pull off.

22-year-old Neto penned a long-term extension with Wolves earlier this year and the Midlanders have no intention of letting their star winger depart this summer. Wolves have, however, signed Goncalo Guedes from Valencia and added Matheus Nunes to their excellent midfield. This huge outlay could force them into a sale of Neto, but they did receive a vast sum from Nottingham Forest for the services of Morgan Gibbs-White.

Arsenal will try their utmost to sign a winger this summer to replace Nicolas Pepe, who looks to be heading to Nice on loan.

Neto has failed to contribute to a goal in Wolves’ opening three Premier League games, but the early signs suggest that the winger hasn’t lost any of the explosivity that made him so brilliant before he suffered a freak knee injury that ruled him out for much of last season.

The winger’s Premier League experience, youth and talent will undoubtedly get supporters excited, but Arsenal still have a long way to go if they’re to pull this deal off.
