Arsenal youngster Brooke Norton-Cuffy has joined Championship side Rotherham United on loan for the 2022/23 season.

Norton-Cuffy is one of the Gunners’ most promising academy products and has enjoyed a promising start to his senior career. The teenager spent the second half of last season on loan at Lincoln City and many expected him to compete for minutes during pre-season this summer.

Unfortunately, though, an injury meant Arsenal fans didn’t see Norton-Cuffy in action ahead of the 2022/23 season, thus making a loan move away likely.

Several Championship clubs were vying for Norton-Cuffy’s services, and it’s Rotherham who have won the race.

Norton-Cuffy penned a contract extension with the Gunners earlier this month and many are projecting the teenager to eventually break into Mikel Arteta’s plans.

He excelled in League One during the second half of last season and we’ll get to see the young full-back in the second tier this time around.

On Monday, Arsenal confirmed that Norton-Cuffy has joined Rotherham on loan for the 2022/23 campaign.

They added: “The 18-year-old defender recently committed his future to us, signing a long-term contract with the club.

“Having spent last season on loan at Lincoln City, Brooke impressed in his 17 appearances for the League One side.

“We wish Brooke all the best for his loan spell at Rotherham United and look forward to seeing his continued development,” the club concluded.

Norton-Cuffy will join midfielder Charlie Patino in the Championship this season with the latter signing for Blackpool on loan.

During his first interview as a Rotherham player, Norton-Cuffy said that the Millers’ reputation for developing youngsters was a big factor in opting to join the club.

On the surface, it looks like a great move for the 18-year-old who will get the chance to further develop physically and mentally in the unforgiving second tier. The right-back should earn plenty of minutes, and he displayed during his brief spell at Lincoln that he’s got the mettle to compete with seasoned veterans.

Good luck, Brooke!
