Outgoings

Lucas Torreira (Galatasaray A.S. €6m), Bernd Leno (Fulham FC, €3.6m), Konstantinos Mavropanos (VfB Stuttgart, €3.2m), Mattéo Guendouzi (Olympique Marseille, €11m), Alexandre Lacazette (Olympique Lyon, free transfer), Héctor Bellerín, (FC Barcelona, free transfer), Auston Trusty (Birmingham, loan), Nuno Tavares, (Olympique Marseille, loan), Pablo Marí, (AC Monza, loan), Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson, (Alanyaspor, loan), Nicolas Pépé, (OGC Nice, loan), Ainsley Maitland-Niles (Southampton FC, loan).

After many seasons of fans wanting the ‘deadwood’ out of the club, a total of 11 players went out the exit door, five of which are out permanently. That is quite the list. Frankly, it needed to happen, and Mikel Arteta and Edu got it done.

Some supporters are understandably not happy that Arsenal couldn’t sign a midfielder on the final day of the window as they tried hard for Douglas Luiz and never made a move for Youri Tielemans. However, if we have learned one thing about Mikel Arteta it’s that we shouldn’t second guess him in the transfer market.

Many fringe players were sent out on loan, and the club recouped fees for Torreira, Leno, Guendouzi, and Mavropanos, so the squad and wage bill have been trimmed down.

Many argue that this needed to happen, and rightly so. Arteta is getting rid of the players he doesn’t want, and it seems, from the outside at least, that the club isn’t concerned with what they get in return. They just want them out.

So, the outgoings were significant this summer, and it puts the club in a better position in the following windows to add players where they feel they are needed.
