Despite registering three assists in five games, some Twitter trolls had the gall to bash Bukayo Saka.

Against Manchester United, he silenced every single one of his doubters. Saka was devastating on that right hand side. He took on and had Tyrell Malacia’s number at every opportunity, beating him with ease. He drifted inside and combined well with Martin Odegaard and Jesus. At one point, he even overlapped with Martinelli on the left hand side. The Man United defence could not live with him.

His eye-catching performance got its just reward as he equalised on the hour. With that goal, his account for 2022/23 has been opened. Although the scoreline will be disappointing, Saka will be filled with confidence. Players can play well game after game, as Saka has, but that first goal of the season can completely change the assurance they have in their own quality.

Although tougher tests than Malacia are on the horizon, the Englishman’s performance against Man United will do him a world of good.

The final score against United flatters the Manchester club. Arsenal dominated proceedings and will have numerous positives to take away. Mikel Arteta is still growing and developing as manager and his squad has room to improve but if they continue to play they way they did on Sunday, the sky is the limit.
