Arsenal lost their first game of the new season, a 3-1 loss to rivals Manchester United. For new forward Gabriel Jesus, there is a sense of frustration at not getting three points.

As we know, football isn’t always fair. Some decisions go your way; other times, they go against you. For Arsenal, a decision was made in the first half that many feel went against them.

Gabriel Martinelli scored a superb goal, but it was overturned after Martin Odegaard was adjudged to have fouled Christian Eriksen in the build-up following VAR intervention. It was a seismic decision in the context of the contest.

But after the goal was disallowed, Arsenal were by far the better side. They just couldn’t make it count.

Gabriel Jesus was his usual industrious self. He was going toe-to-toe with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez and putting himself about in challenges.

The Brazilian has given an insight into what the mood was like post-game after the Gunners dominated the game but ultimately came up short.

"“The feeling is frustration because we controlled the game and the first two goals we conceded, we were better than them,” Jesus said via The Mirror.“So we are not happy because, in my opinion, we could have won because we play so much better. But that’s football. If you don’t go there and kill, you are going to have a big problem – and that’s what happened. Now is the time to learn from it and improve. We are doing so well this season, but there are still things to improve for everyone, as individuals and as a team.”"

It does feel like a missed opportunity for Arsenal as, at stages, it felt like United were there for the taking, particularly after Bukayo Saka scored the equaliser, only for a quick-fire double from Marcus Rashford to all but seal the three points for the Red Devils.

All is not lost, though. Mikel Arteta’s side are still top of the Premier League, and now they embark on their Europa League campaign on Thursday as they take on FC Zurich.

Every Arsenal fan would have taken five wins from six games at the start of the year.
