Thomas Partey set to return sooner rather than later from injury

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is poised to return from injury sooner than expected and he could be in Mikel Arteta’s matchday squad against Everton on Sunday.
Whenever Thomas Partey is seen limping, the whole Arsenal fanbase holds its collective breath such is the Ghanaian’s importance to what Mikel Arteta’s side does.
Partey’s latest injury setback has seen him miss Arsenal’s last three outings and his absence was hard felt as the Gunners fell to a 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford on Sunday.
On a positive note, though, Partey is thought to be hopeful of returning to full training this week, but it remains to be seen as to whether Arteta will rush him straight back into the team or not. One would hope the Spaniard is cautious with his prized midfielder.

Rushing the 29-year-old straight back into the fold would be a foolish thing to do on Arsenal’s part given the long season ahead. Also, the Gunners are off to a fantastic start, so it is not like the team desperately needs points.
According to various reports, Partey could be set to return within the next week. This is just speculation, but it will certainly make Arsenal fans breathe a little easier as it doesn’t seem like he’s sustained the same injury that kept him out for the last nine games of the 2021/22 season.
Given Arsenal’s start to the league campaign, the club can afford to be cautious with the 29-year-old and slowly build him back up to full fitness. There is one problem, however. Despite being injured, he has been selected for Ghana’s upcoming friendly matches.
Surely the club will do everything in its power to keep the 29-year-old in north London and not run the risk of allowing Partey to play for his national team and potentially re-injure his thigh.
His injury also further illustrates Arsenal’s need to invest in another midfielder. The Gunners would have ample cover if the club were more proactive in acquiring Douglas Luiz or Youri Tielemans.
But with Partey and Mohamed Elneny injured, the midfield stocks, again, are relatively thin.
The one saving grace is that the 29-year-old is set to return earlier than first thought. But keeping him fit throughout a hectic 2022/23 campaign will be an incredibly tricky task.
