Arsenal’s upcoming Europa League clash against PSV Eindhoven has been postponed due to a lack of police resources following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

The death of Her Majesty is set to put a serious strain on various resources ahead of next Monday’s state funeral, and the Gunners’ clash against PSV has succumbed as a result.

Arsenal weren’t in action at the weekend after the Premier League opted to postpone all fixtures out of respect for the Queen (?) and their upcoming contest against Brentford on Sunday is in serious jeopardy as well.

Should the Brentford game also be cancelled, we won’t see Arsenal in action until the start of October when they play host to the first North London Derby of the 2022/23 season.

There was initial optimism that Arsenal’s match on Thursday would go ahead, but following deliberation between the club, UEFA and the Metropolitan Police, the game has been postponed.

A statement from the Gunners read: “Our UEFA Europa League home fixture against PSV Eindhoven, scheduled for Thursday 15 September, has been postponed.

“The postponement follows liaison between UEFA, the Metropolitan Police and ourselves, after the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“We apologise for any convenience this may cause and share our thanks for your support and understanding,” the club concluded.

UEFA cited “the severe limitations on police resources and organisational issues related to the ongoing events surrounding the national mourning for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II” as the reasons for the cancellation with a new date for the fixture being arranged.

However, it’s hard to see where Arsenal will be able to fit this game in. An already hectic schedule is only getting crazier and more demanding.

According to Mark Mann-Bryans, the club are expecting either their Premier League game against Man City (October 19) or Carabao Cup tie against Brighton (November 8/9) to be rescheduled in order to fit this game in.

For those asking why the game can’t be behind closed doors, that would’ve still required some sort of policing, while the possibility of switching venues had been discussed.
