Arsenal 3-0 Brentford – Player Ratings as Gunners stay top
By Adam Schultz
A superb display from Arsenal saw them brush aside a poor Brentford side 3-0. First half goals from William Saliba and Gabriel Jesus sent them on their way, with a Fabio Vieira strike in the second half sealing the win.
Mikel Arteta was forced into a couple of changes with Oleksander Zinchenko and Martin Odegaard missing with injuries as Fabio Vieira was handed his first league start and Thomas Partey returned to the starting line-up.
Arsenal got off to the perfect start just 16 minutes in. A corner whipped in by Bukayo Saka found William Saliba, who glanced his header home to give the Gunners the lead.
Just 11 minutes later, Arsenal doubled their lead. A beautiful, lofted ball from Granit Xhaka found Gabriel Jesus, who headed across goal to give the Gunners a deserved 2-0 lead.
In a relatively ugly game, Arsenal dominated proceedings, rendering Brentford rudderless as they headed into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Fabio Vieira netted a superb long-range goal just minutes into the second half as his shot cannoned in off the post to give Arsenal a 3-0 lead.
The rest of the half was a walk in the park for Mikel Arteta’s men as they barely got out of second gear. Another win, and a return to the summit of the Premier League in what was a routine victory for the Gunners.
Here are the player ratings from Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Brentford.
Goalkeeper and Defenders
Ramsdale (GK) 6/10 – Could have had a deck chair out there today. Barely had a thing to do all day bar a save here and there—an easy day’s work.
White (RB) 7/10 – Another excellent performance at right back. Overlapped well for Vieira’s goal to create space and defended stoutly.
Gabriel (CB) 7/10 – Another assured performance as his relationship builds with Saliba. Barely gave the home side a sniff.
Saliba (CB) 7/10 – A nice header for the game’s opener. He was dominant in possession and was progressive with his passes—yet another superb display.
Tierney (LB) 7/10 – Back to his usual industrial self. Got forward well and defended even better. A good outing.
