William Saliba has been one of Arsenal’s best players during the opening of the Premier League season, and a new contract is thought to be on its way.

It took three years upon signing for Saliba to finally don the Arsenal shirt but, boy, it was well worth the wait.

The 21-year-old has taken all before him since re-joining the Arsenal squad for pre-season. In every game (apart from the defeat at Old Trafford), he has been among the Gunners’ best performers.

Kevin Campbell offers update on William Saliba’s contract situation

Attention has turned to Saliba’s contract situation at the club, and former Gunner Kevin Campbell believes an extension will be penned soon. Campbell spoke with Football Insider and said the sooner the contract is signed, the better for the club and its fans.

"“There is a new contract that is going to be sorted out,” Campbell said.“The quicker Arsenal fans see that the better. He is phenomenal. There was a lot said about Ivan Toney getting picked for the England squad. Toney was not a threat in the game at all. They nullified him.“A lot of the good play starts from the back with Arsenal. Saliba’s passing and composure on the ball makes such a difference, it really does.”"

A new deal would be welcome news to the Gunners faithful as, in the summer, the club was faced with the real prospect of Saliba returning to France after not being given a chance in the Arsenal first team.

Luckily for us, Saliba seems happy in north London, and during a chat with Sky Sports via football.london, the 21-year-old gave the biggest hint yet that his future remains with the Gunners.

"“Yes, for sure,” Saliba said when being asked if he is feeling at home with Arsenal.“I’m at home here. I like London, I like the club, I like everything. I feel at home here.”"

It’s music to the ears of every Arsenal fan that one of the best young prospects in world football is happy to call north London home. Now, all that needs to be done is for him to sign a new deal.
