William Saliba has been nothing short of sensational for Arsenal this season, and talks of a new contract for the 21-year-old have already taken place.

The wait was well worth it. After several loans away from the club, William Saliba has hit the ground running in north London.

Easily Arsenal’s best defender, and it isn’t even close, the Frenchman was at the heart of the action on Saturday in the North London derby. Arsenal secured a 3-1 victory over Tottenham, with Saliba again a standout performer as he marshalled the Gunners’ defence with aplomb.

Mikel Arteta has every right to be happy, as his team is flying right now. Seven wins in the first eight games has every team chasing the Gunners, with Saliba being one of the best defenders in the league so far.

His presence on the pitch, his ability to remain calm and not lunge into tackles, as well as his progressive passing have all been on display since day one.

Such has been his incredible form in the first eight games of the Premier League season that the Gunners have already entered contract talks with the 21-year-old.

Given that Saliba is a generational talent, the big clubs of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, PSG, etc, will inevitably come calling at some stage.

So there is a push to get terms agreed on a new deal for him sooner rather than later. Reporters quizzed Saliba after Arsenal’s win over Tottenham and asked if any contract news would be coming soon.

"“We will see,” Saliba via Goal.com. “They talk a little bit. We will see.”"

While that isn’t exactly what Gunners fans want to hear, it is a good sign that talks have started regarding a new deal. With less than two years left on his contract that was signed in 2019, there’s hope that the 21-year-old will commit his long-term future to Arsenal.

Bukayo Saka is another player that Arsenal want to tie down quickly to starve off interest from other clubs. Still, with Saliba taking the headlines, many Gunners fans want that one signed, sealed, and delivered as soon as possible.
