Arsenal have the chance to send out another big statement on Sunday afternoon as they host Liverpool at the Emirates.

The Gunners swept aside Tottenham in the North London derby last weekend to remain top of the Premier League table, but another big test awaits them on Matchday 10.

While Liverpool are not the juggernaut they once were, Arsenal’s recent record against the Reds is appalling. The Gunners have beaten a Jurgen Klopp-led Liverpool just once in the Premier League, and that came after they’d wrapped up the Premier League title in July 2020.

Sunday’s visitors have endured a poor start to the new campaign, however, winning just two of their seven league encounters. Klopp’s side enter the contest in ninth, while Arsenal have tasted defeat just once in 2022/23.

This is the Gunners’ time to send out a serious statement against a side that, for so long, has appeared a couple of levels above.

Arsenal Team News

There doesn’t appear to be any fresh injury concerns for the Gunners in the wake of their Thursday night triumph.

Oleksandr Zinchenko missed training earlier on in the week, but the Ukrainian’s status for Sunday isn’t in doubt. However, Arteta might be tempted to start Kieran Tierney against the Reds.

While Tierney could come in, the hosts will likely be unchanged from the North London derby victory.

Liverpool Team News

Jurgen Klopp will once again have limited options in midfield for Sunday’s trip to the Emirates. Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Arthur Melo are all set to miss out. Fabinho was dropped for Tuesday’s victory over Rangers and the boss could stick with Jordan Henderson and Thiago as a midfield two.

Andy Robertson also isn’t ready to return which means Kostas Tsimikas will start at left-back.

Roberto Firmino should return to the starting XI, and Klopp will likely decide between Diogo Jota – who has an incredible scoring record against the Gunners – and Darwin Nunez as to who’ll start alongside the Brazilian up top.

Arsenal vs Liverpool Predicted Lineups

Arsenal: Ramsdale; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Tierney; Partey, Xhaka, Odegaard; Saka, Jesus, Martinelli.

Klopp desperately needed to change something, and his switch to a 4-4-2/4-2-4 facilitated a much-improved performance in the week against Rangers.

The Scottish outfit certainly aren’t as talented or well-coached as Arteta’s Gunners, but Klopp will hope that his systematic alteration will help Liverpool rediscover their most destructive form. However, the Reds will have to be on top of their game if they’re to take any points off the table-toppers on Sunday.

Arsenal are good enough in the build-up to bypass Liverpool’s press, and they also possess the outlets to exploit their high defensive line. The Reds will have to be aggressive throughout if they’re to have any success. Any signs of dysfunction will be taken advantage of by the purring hosts.

I think Sunday’s bout could be an entertaining high-scorer, with the Gunners picking up a rare point against a Klopp-led Liverpool.

Prediction: Arsenal 2-2 Liverpool
