Battle #2: Gabriel Martinelli vs Trent Alexander-Arnold

A head-to-head that will have Arsenal fans licking their lips before kick-off.

Gabriel Martinelli and Trent Alexander-Arnold have made headlines for very different reasons over the last few weeks, and current form suggests that targeting the Liverpool full-back could be a profitable avenue for the Gunners to explore.

Despite his somewhat modest tally of four goal contributions in ten games, Martinelli has been a revelation in the opening fixtures of the campaign and is now one of the first names on Arteta’s team sheet.

The Brazil international uses incredible close control, a direct approach and his astonishing pace to terrorise the opposition and he will most likely get further enjoyment out of the unconvincing Alexander-Arnold – for whom he caused all manner of problems in a terrific display at the Emirates last season.

The spotlight will shine firmly on Alexander-Arnold this Sunday, as he attempts to redeem himself following a series of below-par performances in the Liverpool defence. A magical free-kick in midweek offered a reminder of his abundant attacking qualities, but he is constantly caught out of position at the back and his struggles in 1v1 situations could be brutally exposed by our dynamic forwards.

Get Martinelli into the game and the three points may well be ours.
