Arsenal took full control of Group A as they beat Bodø/Glimt 1-0 in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

The hosts started brightly before Arsenal slowed down the contest and took the sting out of Bodo’s early momentum. The Gunners then took the lead through Bukayo Saka before Amahl Pellegrino spurned a glorious chance to quickly restore parity.

Thus, the visitors took a slender lead into half-time but their control dissipated after the restart. Bodø/Glimt were by far the more threatening side in the second period and they had several brilliant chances to equalise.

Pellegrino was denied by Matt Turner one-vs-one, while Runar Espejord and Ola Solbakken both came close in quick succession.

The hosts’ threat did fade, however, and Arsenal were able to see out the victory rather comfortably in the closing stages to maintain their 100% start to the Europa League group stage.

Matt Turner (GK) – 8/10 – This was Turner’s best display between the sticks, without a doubt. The USMNT number one was sharp off his line, and he produced a fine save to deny Pellegrino in the second period. Deserved his clean sheet.

Ben White (RB) – 7.5/10 – White’s technical proficiency was on full display in this one and he was excellent in the first half. He’s proving to be quite the force on the overlap. Takehiro Tomiyasu replaced him with 20 minutes remaining.

Rob Holding (CB) – 5.5/10 – Holding made a crucial intervention early on to deny the hosts an opener, but his performance otherwise certainly didn’t emanate assurance. The Englishman wasn’t on the same page as Saliba on several occasions.

William Saliba (CB) – 6.5/10 – The defensive line that he marshalled was exploited several times in the second half, but Saliba was fantastic in possession. The Frenchman’s excellent in the build-up and his ability to pick out the tightest of angles allowed Arsenal to progress upfield efficiently.

Kieran Tierney (LB) – 6.5/10 – Popped up in multiple positions in a bid to aid Arsenal’s build-up, and had some joy in this regard. Was beaten a couple of times by Solbakken, but Tierney’s overall performance was pretty assured.
