Arsenal seek to tie Edu Gaspar down to long-term extension
Arsenal are hoping to secure the long-term future of technical director Edu Gaspar amid growing interest in the Brazilian.
It’s taken some time for former Gunner Edu to endear himself to supporters in the role, but back-to-back successful summer transfer windows have seen the director win over the vast majority.
He’s said to have been a huge advocate for the appointment of Mikel Arteta as manager following the dismissal of Unai Emery in November 2019, and the pair have forged a healthy relationship which has seen the club make huge strides both on and off the pitch.
Edu has played a key role behind the scenes in facilitating a culture shift at the Emirates, and his impressive work hasn’t gone unnoticed by other clubs.
Arsenal seek to tie Edu Gaspar down to long-term extension
It was reported earlier this month that more than two European clubs had shown an interest in acquiring the Arsenal director. Edu, however, is said to be fully committed to the north London club and the Gunners are keen to tie the 44-year-old down to a long-term extension.
The Daily Mail reports that the “wheels are in motion towards a new deal for Edu” with Arsenal aware of the growing interest in their technical director from overseas.
The Gunners recently extended the contract of defender Gabriel and are hopeful of reaching agreements with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and William Saliba over new deals. Edu is another that will likely be drawn to the negotiating table soon, and securing his long-term future may be just as important as tying down one of their young guns.
Edu’s savvy work in the summer transfer window, in which they signed Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City, has seen Arsenal take a giant leap at the start of the 2022/23 season. Arteta’s side are top of the Premier League table through 11 games and are well placed to achieve the objectives they set out at the start of the campaign.
January will be a significant window for the Gunners as they look to build on their promising start, with Edu set to be a busy man once again.
