Arsenal have a good opportunity to bounce back from their midweek defeat in Eindhoven as they take on bottom-of-the-table Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta’s side suffered their second defeat of the season on Thursday as they were beaten 2-0 by PSV. As a result, the Gunners failed to qualify for the Europa League knockouts as group winners and they’ll likely have to beat FC Zurich at home on Matchday 6.

It’s been a difficult week for Arsenal after they also dropped points away at Southampton last Sunday, but it’s not all doom and gloom in north London. For the time being, the Gunners are still top of the Premier League and they have a brilliant chance to return to winning ways this weekend.

However, while Forest are currently bringing up the rear, they’ve shown notable signs of improvement in recent weeks and they claimed a memorable victory against Liverpool last Saturday.

Arsenal Team News

Gabriel, who came on as a substitute on Thursday, has picked up a knock and is unlikely to start on Sunday. That should see Ben White move into the centre of defence with Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney operating as the full-backs.

Oleksandr Zinchenko, Mohamed Elneny and Emile Smith Rowe are all still out of action for the hosts.

Nottingham Forest Team News

Defenders Moussa Niakhate and Harry Toffolo have hamstring injuries and will miss out, while Lewis O’Brien has sat out the last three matches because of illness but has been back in training this week. The midfielder should make Steve Cooper’s matchday squad.

Omar Richards and Jack Colback will also be absent.

Prediction

It understandably took Cooper some time to stumble upon his best team and formation, but he may have done exactly that following the switch to a 4-3-3.

Forest have quickly evolved into a pragmatic outfit that’ll undoubtedly defend deep at the Emirates on Sunday and attempt to hit the Gunners on the counter. While I do question their capacity to harm the hosts going forward, they could certainly make life difficult for Arteta’s side.

While many will be projecting a comfortable home win, I don’t think this will be a walk in the park for Arsenal. Nevertheless, they’ll have enough to claim all three points.

Prediction: Arsenal 1-0 Nottingham Forest.
