Arsenal 5-0 Nottingham Forest: 3 talking points from a five-star performance
By Adam Schultz
Arsenal put a poor Nottingham Forest side to the sword with a 5-0 win at the Emirates. on Sunday afternoon. Gabriel Martinelli got things going in the first half before strikes from Reiss Nelson (x2), Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard sealed the demolition after the restart.
Mikel Arteta named virtually a full-strength side for the visit of Nottingham Forest as the Gunners chased a win that would take them back to the top of the Premier League table.
It took the Gunners less than five minutes to take the lead. Bukayo Saka picked up the ball and got his cross into the box, where Martinelli headed low past Dean Henderson in the Forest goal.
The first half didn’t hit the heights of the opening five minutes, with Saka forced off with an injury.
Forest kept things tight at the back and went into the half-time break down just the solitary goal.
Arsenal took four minutes to double its lead after the break, though. A move started by Partey, who released Xhaka. The Swiss midfielder cut it back for Gabriel Jesus, who found Nelson, and the winger made no mistake at the second attempt.
Nelson doubled his tally just minutes later. Jesus and Odegaard were pivotal in the build-up, with the Brazilian finding the substitute who tapped home again.
A Partey thunderbolt rounded off the blitz before the skipper added a fifth following some tidy footwork in the box.
The Gunners produced a superb performance as they put Forest to the sword and moved back to the top of the Premier League table.

The game provided plenty of talking points, here they are.
1. Saka injury watch
If there’s one player that Arsenal fans don’t want to see injured, it’s Bukayo Saka. The Gunners’ starboy was kicked from pillar to post in the opening 20 minutes.
That took its toll as he was forced off the field within 30 minutes with what looked like an ankle injury. Mikel Arteta and Arsenal will be hoping it is nothing too serious, with plenty of games to come before the league pauses for the World Cup.
