Arsenal are considering a move for Orlando City winger Facundo Torres and are set to hold talks over the 22-year-old’s signature.

The Gunners are expected to be busy in January as they seek to build on their superb start to the 2022/23 season. Mikel Arteta’s side are vastly improved off the back of an impressive summer window as they currently top the Premier League table and are on the brink of qualifying for the Europa League round of 16.

Injuries have been fairly kind to Arsenal thus far, but Arteta will know how quickly things can take a turn for the worst on this front. Thus, the Spaniard will be keen to bolster his squad in a couple of key areas this winter to ensure the Gunners are well-placed to mount a charge during the second half of the season.

While supporters are clamouring for a midfielder to be signed in January, depth out wide wouldn’t go amiss either and the club have identified Orlando’s Torres as a potential target.

The 22-year-old has impressed since arriving from Penarol in January and he caught the eye of Arsenal’s scouts during the Gunners’ pre-season game against Orlando, in which Torres scored.

Scout Toni Lima has monitored the Uruguayan since and GOAL reporter Charles Watts writes that a meeting has been set up with Arsenal technical director Edu Gaspar and Torres’ representatives to discuss a potential move.

Torres, who scored nine goals for Orlando during the 2022 season, is believed to be keen on a move to the Premier League, but Watts adds that a deal is far from being completed.

Torres is a player that I don’t know much about, but it’s imperative that Arsenal sign cover for Bukayo Saka in January and the 22-year-old represents a low-risk, high-upside option. Reiss Nelson may yet come into his own following his brace against Nottingham Forest, but I wouldn’t hold your breath, while Marquinhos is yet to make his Premier League bow since joining in the summer.

Arsenal require another quality option down the flanks if they’re to build on their impressive start to the season.
