A win is a win.

Arsenal won Group A on the last matchday with a 1-0 over FC Zurich thanks to a first-half strike from Kieren Tierney.

This was a tougher road to winning the group than it has been in the past, with every game mattering in order to avoid a playoff to get to the knockouts.

Hopefully, this was the last Europa League group stage match Arsenal will be playing in for a while.

3 positives & negatives from Arsenal’s 1-0 win over FC Zurich

Here are some of the good and the bad from the win at the Emirates.

Positive #1: Winning the group

This was obviously the goal for the UEL campaign and it was completed on Thursday.

Match congestion has gotten terrible with the World Cup on the horizon, so avoiding next February’s playoffs and progressing straight into the round of 16 is huge for Arsenal’s Europa League aspirations as well as their ability to keep winning in the Premier League.

Some scary opponents are dropping down to join us in the Europa League. The likes of Barcelona and Juventus will not be easy foes if we go up against them in this tournament.

That will just make the win feel even better when we do.

Negative #1: Referee

Arsenal won by a narrow margin and didn’t get much help from the referee in this match. Countless calls failed to go the Gunners’ way or weren’t called at all, once again creating a very dangerous match.

The hosts should have done more but the ref has to do his job as well.
