Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli has been rewarded for his stellar start to the season by being selected in Tite’s 26-man Brazilian World Cup squad.

As far as important players go at Arsenal, winger Gabriel Martinelli is near the top of the list. His all-around game has now improved to a point where he is nearly the equal of Bukayo Saka. Nearly.

His inclusion into Brazil’s World Cup squad is due reward for a scintillating start to the Premier League campaign.

Why Gabriel Martinelli is fully deserving of Brazil World Cup spot

The 21-year-old has scored five goals and registered two assists in 18 games in all competitions. Stat-wise, it’s not the best, but serviceable.

But for Martinelli, the majority of his best work comes without the ball. His energy, harassment, tenacity, and willingness to cover every blade of grass and do it with intent have seen him become a feared opponent in the Premier League.

Arsenal’s front three of Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, and Bukayo Saka are as feared in the Premier League as any. Thanks largely in part to the trios closing down and their ability to force mistakes.

That’s Martinelli’s one wood.

The 21-year-old has risen to prominence over the last 12 months but even more so over the last three.

Taking the number 11 shirt, previously worn by Robin van Persie, many were wondering if the winger was worthy. That debate has well and truly been put to bed.

Now, the 21-year-old has a chance to strut his stuff for the national side. Something that fills players with great pride. He will have Gabriel Jesus there for company as Arsenal’s number nine was also selected. The Gunners other Brazilian, Gabriel, missed out, unfortunately.

November’s World Cup will be Martinelli’s first ever. He has three caps for Brazil and an Olympic gold medal, which he won in Tokyo last year.

But we get the sense that this squad inclusion will mean a little bit more.

His selection is more than thoroughly deserved, as he has set the Premier League alight in 2022.

Well done Gabby.
