Gabriel Jesus’ injury could force Arsenal into the striker market in January and there are two targets reportedly on their agenda.

The club confirmed on Tuesday that Jesus underwent successful knee surgery but failed to provide a timescale on his return. However, the Brazilian striker will likely be out for a prolonged period, with some reports suggesting he’ll be absent for up to three months.

That leaves Mikel Arteta with a predicament given the Gunners’ position in the Premier League table. His side are five points clear at the top with Jesus playing a crucial role in their early success.

Eddie Nketiah will initially be given a chance to deputise for the Brazilian, but the club might be tempted to splash the cash this winter.

According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal had scouted Lille’s Jonathan David and Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix last summer before moving for Jesus. They add that instead of signing an outright winger in January, the club might seek to kill two birds with one stone and bring in a versatile forward capable of lining up centrally and out wide.

As a result, it’d make sense for the Gunners to target a player of Felix or David’s profile as opposed to Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Felix is a name that’ll undoubtedly excite supporters given his talent. It simply hasn’t worked out for him under Diego Simeone at Atleti and it appears their relationship is drawing to a close.

Speaking to TVE (via Fabrizio Romano), Atlético CEO Gil Marín said: “João Felix has top level but because of his relationship with Simeone and game time… we feel that makes sense to consider potential bids to sell him.

“I’d love for João to continue, but this is the current situation,” he added.

Arsenal have reportedly long been admirers of Felix, who is currently enjoying a stellar World Cup campaign with Portugal. Matteo Moretto (via @afcstuff) writes that the Gunners are among the clubs that have enquired about the 23-year-old, but Atleti could demand up to €140m for his services.

Despite their ambition, it’s hard to believe that Arsenal will pay that much for anybody in January. While Felix would be a wonderful addition, I’d recommend supporters to not get their hopes up.
