Arsenal had their opening proposal for priority January target Mykhaylo Mudryk rejected by Shakhtar Donetsk. So, how much will the Gunners have to spend to land the exciting young winger?

Mudryk came close to departing Shakhtar in the summer as several Premier League clubs circled but he remained in Ukraine and enjoyed a stellar Champions League group stage which facilitated a huge value increase.

The winger was previously linked with a €25m departure, but the Gunners have already had a €60m bid rejected by Shakhtar this winter. The Ukrainian club reportedly want ‘way more’, but they are willing to negotiate.

How much will Arsenal have to spend to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk?

It’s unclear exactly how much Arsenal will have to pay to sign Mudryk in January. Shakhtar previously said they wouldn’t sell their star winger for anything less than €100m, but it’s believed that their stance has softened somewhat with the player desperate to join the Premier League leaders.

After rejecting the Gunners’ first bid, Shakhtar CEO Sergei Palkin said that they were prepared to negotiate with the north Londoners to ensure Mudryk earns his dream move.

“Talks for Mudryk are on,” Palkin said (via Fabrizio Romano). “We receive offers but not the ones we would like to see on our table.

“I’ll speak again to Arsenal so yes, we are open to discuss fees and ideas. If we will agree, then let it be so. If we will not, then let it be another time,” he added.

Shakhtar’s willingness to negotiate is undoubtedly positive news for the Gunners, who are keen to add attacking reinforcements in January to aid their title charge. However, it seems as if the Premier League leaders will have to pay a pretty penny if they’re to land Mudryk in January – perhaps more than they were initially hoping to spend.

We’re talking upwards of €70m, but don’t quote me on that.
