The signing of Mykhaylo Mudryk doesn’t quite look like the inevitability it once did. Shakhtar’s stubbornness combined with Todd Boehly’s financial might have thrown a couple of spanners in the works.

Nevertheless, the Gunners, who have had two bids rejected for the 21-year-old thus far, are still optimistic they can strike a deal for the Ukrainian international.

Mudryk is desperate for a move to north London, but Shakhtar’s lofty valuation of their star man – believed to be influenced by Antony’s mammoth price tag – is one that Arsenal simply cannot match. It’s extortionate.

Still, the prospect of Mudryk joining the club this winter is very real. However, Arsenal will have to pay a pretty penny if they are to secure the services of the 21-year-old.

3 reasons why Arsenal fans should be excited about Mykhaylo Mudryk

Many supporters have already conducted their research, but for those that are still in the dark, here are three reasons why you should be excited about Mudryk’s potential arrival – even if the Gunners have to spend big to get him here.

1. Mikel Arteta: the winger whisperer

Mikel Arteta is a quite magnificent coach, and one of his great achievements during his spell as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City was maximising the talent of wingers Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane.

City were at their very best with these two occupying the flanks and each have discussed just how influential Arteta was at the Etihad. While Sterling, who enjoyed his most productive seasons while Arteta was at the club, said that the Arsenal boss “had a lot of say” in Manchester, Sane was more explicit in his praise.

“He was the one who pulled me aside and gave me the tactical tweaks to better my game but, more important than that, he understood I was a very young player coming with a lot of expectations,” the German said back in 2020.

The improvements of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli under Arteta’s tutelage further depict the Spaniard’s ability to get the very best out of his wingers. Should Mudryk join, he’ll be the next young gun to reap the rewards of Arteta’s coaching.
