4 Mykhaylo Mudryk alternatives for Arsenal to consider
Despite the player’s desire to join the club this month, Arsenal’s pursuit of Mykhaylo Mudryk is a saga that could consume more of the Gunners’ time than they initially perceived.
Mudryk is desperate to be a Gooner, but Shakhtar’s lofty valuation of the 21-year-old winger is proving to be a major sticking point in negotiations.
The club remain confident that a compromise can be reached, but Arsenal’s desperation to bolster their attack this winter could leave them vulnerable to paying an extortionate fee for the Ukrainian international.
For now, Mudryk is the overwhelming priority, but it could reach a point where the Gunners have to pull away from negotiations and pursue other options.
4 Mykhaylo Mudryk alternatives for Arsenal to consider
Here are four alternatives Arsenal should consider should they come up short in their pursuit of Mudryk.
Wilfried Zaha
Wilfried Zaha is yet to pen a contract extension with Crystal Palace despite his current deal expiring in the summer. However, the Ivorian recently said he’s fully committed to the Eagles and isn’t believed to be pushing for a January exit.
Arsenal have long been linked with Zaha, and he may well have been a Gooner had Unai Emery gotten his way in the summer of 2018. Should the Gunners reignite their interest this month, perhaps Zaha could be swayed.
The winger will have a whole host of clubs on his tail in the summer if he opts to leave Selhurst Park on a free transfer, but joining Arsenal right now would be a huge opportunity for the 30-year-old, who has shown time and time again during his stint at Palace that he’s capable of making the big leap.
He may take some persuading, but Zaha’s contract situation in south London means it won’t take a big fee to prise him away from the Eagles.
