Arsenal defeated Manchester United in a thrilling Premier League encounter. An Eddie Nketiah double and a Bukayo Saka wonder strike gave the Gunners a vital three points.

Mikel Arteta named an unchanged side from the one that swept aside Tottenham last time out as new signing Leandro Trossard was named on the bench.

Arsenal started the better side, but United took the early lead. Marcus Rashford skipped past Thomas Partey and unleashed an unstoppable shot from outside the box.

The hosts weren’t behind for long, though, as just six minutes later, Nketiah headed home from close range. A superb cross from Granit Xhaka found the striker at the back post, and the Englishman attacked the ball superbly.

The Gunners took their first lead just seven minutes into the second half when Saka picked up the ball outside the box, cut inside Christian Eriksen, and unleashed an unstoppable shot past David De Gea.

United were level just minutes later, however, as Lisandro Martinez capitalised on Aaron Ramsdale’s horror attempt at collecting the corner. Nketiah then won it at the death for the Gunners after some good build-up play from Oleksandr Zinchenko and Trossard. Nketiah was found – rather fortuitously – and he poked home from close range with just a minute of normal time remaining to send the Emirates into raptures.

They say revenge is a dish best served cold, but the Emirates was rocking after Nketiah’s last-minute winner. It moves Arsenal now 11 points clear of United with a game in hand. In a title race, you have to win these games, and the Gunners did so.
