Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat against Everton at Goodison Park was a disappointing loss against relegation contenders. There is no hiding away from that. But it was also just the Gunners’ second league defeat of the season – a remarkable feat and testament to the work Mikel Arteta has done with his squad.

The performance demonstrated all the things Arteta would not want to have seen. Even from a basic standpoint, there seemed to be a lack of passion and motivation going forward. This enabled Everton, who recently hired Sean Dyche to be their manager, to sit back and comfortably defend their one-nil lead.

Why we don’t need to panic after Arsenal’s loss to Everton

There is probably a selection of Arsenal fans distraught with this loss. By no means was the performance a good thing, but there are always going to be blips in a title charge. Arsenal are in this for the long run, we need to get behind the team in moments like this.

It isn’t a time to dissect each player’s poor touch or misplaced pass, it is time to rally behind the team and look ahead to the next match: Brentford at home.

Arteta has full faith in his team. The way he has entrusted his players to play the same style of football within each moment of the match has shown this. Sometimes, such as against Manchester United at home, it brings the rewards of late goals. Against Everton, we weren’t so lucky.

Speaking after the match, Arteta said: “We need to digest this one because it is important to digest, look in the mirror and on Monday come to the training ground ready for a fight because Brentford will be tough.

“Now is a time to love the players more than the day before and the month before, because they fully deserve it. We will be next to them and prepare for Saturday.”

The defeat means that Arsenal’s lead at the top of the league table remains five points, with Manchester City to play Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow. Come on you Spurs!!!
